Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Reading: I'm swithcing between two books this week. This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress #5)
by Jeaniene Frost and One Wicked Sin (The Scandalous Women of the Ton #2)
by Nicola Cornick.

Knitting: I've finally knitted a bit on the socks for Hubby. Just the foot and toe left on both. And I have casted on a red angry bird :) It looks pinkish in the photo due to bad light...

Dreaming of spring

A snow/rain storm is blowing outside and making the roads icy and the snow into a slushy mess instead of the crisp white piles we had a few days ago... I like the winter, but not when it's raining. Can't say I'm looking forward to get the kids home from school with soaking wet clothes *sigh*
So here I am dreaming of spring. Remember this part of the backyard? Well, I hope we can manage to turn it into a vegetable garden :)
As we live in a part with almost arctic climate, I know it will probably be a few years with try and failure before we find out what can and will grow here.

What to plant

- Potato
- Carrots, I'd like to try those in various colours
- Garlic
- Leeks
- Onion
- Strawberries
- Raspberries
- Red currants
- Rubarb
- Squash
- Tomato
- Cucumber
- Snow peas

Weeble Wobble Cowl

Weeble Wobble Cowl

The 3rd pattern in Liz's Great Cowl KAL was Weeble Wobble Cowl.
Mine turned out very long. So long that I wish I had casted on less st and knitted more rounds to make it wider in hight. I can wrap it three times around my neck and it still very loose. I like my cowls a bit snug around my neck..

Needles: 5mm on Eirin's hat and 5,5mm on mine

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Can't believe it's Wednesday again. Seems like the days is just flying away :) The two youngest have a day free from school, but we are spending the day inside despite a wonderful sunny day due to -20 C... I am so fed up with this low temperature :( So we are watching dvd's, playing with lego, doing some laundry, feeding the stove with wood and knit.

Reading: After listening to 6 out of 14 cd of The Return, I gave up. It was just to much politics to keep me interested... So I began listening to The Secret Life of Bees and I love it. A wonderful story!
I'm also enjoying Deeper the 2nd book in the Tunnels series. I only have a few chapter left and I'm glad I have the 3rd book waiting in the shelf ;) The last book is Whisper of Scandal by Nicola Cornick. One need to have one guilty pleasure book in the pile, right?

Knitting: Well, the socks haven't grown much since last week... I have knitted half the heel on the owl socks, but I'm worried about them being to small even for Eirin's feet. But I'll knit them without owls on the foot, so hopefully they will stretch a bit in the leg. The black is a hat I am test knitting :) And the pink/blue is another cowl, but this time for Eirin.

And I just have to share this Sh*t Knitters Say :)

A Very Good Cowl Indeed

A Very Good Cowl Indeed

The second cowl in The Great Cowl kal is off the needles :) When I started it the colours made a nice little stripy swirl, but then suddenly changed and become wide and started to pool. I didn't like it when I still had the cowl on the needle, but I think it looks ok now. And it dosn't show so good when I wear it.

A Very Good Cowl Indeed

Pattern: A Very Good Cowl Indeed
Yarn: 1 skein Spunkey Eclectik Super DK, colourway Flannel. On Ravelry the yarn is listed as a skien of 100 g. My skein weighed 118 g and I used 104 for the cowl.
Needles: 3 mm
Size: 111 st
Notes: It's a pattern with two chart you can mix as you like. I just knitted chart A and made 9 repeats.

A Very Good Cowl Indeed

This is the perfect cowl for those cold winter days when I need to keep warm up over my nose ;)

FO's and a cast on :)

Wool Pants

The wool pants are finally done. They've been very boring to knit, but necessary as a second layer of wool is needed for those cold days playing outdoors. No photo of him wearing then though as he was fast to take them out after I made him try them on. They itch apparently... but I know that will be forgotten as soon as they keep him warm outdoors ;)

Pattern: NR.5 Bukse m/ og u/ fot by Dale of Norway / Dale Design
Yarn: Gjestal Superwash Sport, about 315 g all together. Brown #228 and green #235
Needles: 3 and 3,5 mm
Size: 6 years

Newfoundland mittens #2

I've also knitted up a second pair of Newfoundland mittens. they were ment to be for Eirin, but turn out too small for her... So I think they'll be a gift instead.

The beginning of A very good cowl indeed

And with some projects done and some free needles, I can cast one a new project right!?
This is the second cowl in the Great cowl kal. The yarn is Super DK #Flannel by Spunky Eclectic and I love the colour.
So what are you knitting on this weekend?

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Looks pretty much as last weeks photo... But a bit more messy ;) I often admire those pretty photos of books and projects some of you post, but I thought today was the day to just show off how it really looks like at my table. Projects, post it notes and a stack of printed patterns I plan to cast on next.

Reading: I finished Cross Stitch last night. And wow, I loved that book! Definitely a book I will read several times. I have to clear something about the book though. Cross Stitch is the same as Outlander. I think Cross Stitch is the uk version. I'm still reading Sister's Choice and quite enjoying it. Right now I'm listening to The Return by Victoria Hislop.

Knitting: I've managed to knit one owl on the Owlie sock :) Love it so far. Both cuffs on Jules are done and I have started the second leg on the wool pants.

Flurries Cowl

Flurries Cowl

Last week I came across a tread in the Cowls group at Ravelry that there was a cowl kal going on in the Traveling Woman group. So I had to check it out. It turned out to be a kal with 5 patterns designed by Liz Abinante. The kal works like this. The first pattern (this cowl) is free to all. If you complete it by the due date, which is tomorrow, you'll get the next pattern also for free. And so on. Hopefully I'll manage to knit all of them within each due date. Because I really want them all. Here you can see the Previewes & Schedules :)

Well, hello there sun. Nice to see you again!

Well, hello there sun. Nice to see you again

The sun has slowly made it's way down from the peaks of the mountains to the lake the last two weeks, and today we finally could see her peeking out.  She will be lurking in the forest a couple of weeks until she manage to come over the mountain to the left.

♥

The shadows on the wall bring promises of warm sunny days ♥

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Knitting: Still working on the wool pants for Endre. I'm halfway through the first leg and the stripes makes it a bit more fun to knit as I can see it grow. The three new wips are some mittens and socks. The white is a pair of Newfoundland mittens for Eirin. Similar to the once I finished yesterday. The blue is a pair of Jules socks for Hubby and the grey a pair of Owlie socks for Eirin.

Reading: I've read a couple of Harlequin historical romance books since last time. And quite enjoyed them as the guilty pleasure books they are ;) But each night I indulge myself in the world of Jamie and Claire in Cross Stitch. I'm halfway through it and I love this story! Scottish always makes my knees a little wobble ;) The other book, Sister's Choice, have I just started to read, but it looks like it's a good book.
I have discovered audio books now that the kids are at school and I have the day for myself. What a great way to spend the day knitting and listening to a book at the same time!! As audiobooks are rather expensive here, I borrow them at the library. The other day I came across the site Books Should Be Free. There are mostly classics there, and I started to listen to Pride and Prejudice
If you take a look at the top of my blog you'll see a page named Around the world in books. In short words I have decided to read my way around the world :) Will take a while, but what a journey it wil be. I have added the books I have already read in the past, but I haven't visited many countries yet...
