They have been fun and easy to crochet up, but it's taking me forever to put the parts together...

WIP :: Waffel Socks

Untitled

Knitting: Hubby and I have been catching up on Walking Dead this summer as one of the tv channels have been showing seasons 1-3 with 4 episodes each Friday. And when I'm watching tv I need to knit, and the easiest to knit is socks. So this Friday when we sat down to watch I casted on a pair of Bluberry Waffel socks. It's a pattern I have knitted several times and I like it. It's easy, but still pretty.

Reading: I finished The Forgotten Garden on Monday. And wow - I loved it! If you haven't read it, you must. As I loved this novel so much, I don't dare to read the next book of her just yet. I need to let this one sink in a bit first. So I picked up the last book in the Parasol Protectorate - Timeless. I love this series and as this is the last book, I've been holding on to it for a while ;) I'm three chapters in and Gail Carriger doesn't dissapoint!
Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London High society, living in a vampire's second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly. Even Ivy Tunstell's acting troupe's latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia's enjoyment of her new London lifestyle.
 Until, that is, she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?

What are you knitting and reading this week??

FO :: Jeans socks

Untitled

Hubby's socks came off the needles today. The yarn is from my stash and I have been holding on to these two skeins as they were so pretty... Mine is the old version of two skeins, 57 g each, so I hoped they would stripe up identical or at least almost identical. It started out good, but as you can see the dark blue stripe would not be the same, and it started to pool too.... But hubby doesn't care and I know they will keep his feet warm ♡

After my cousin posted a Swallowtail shawl in black on facebook, I knew I had to make the same shawl :)
It's been a fun and fast knit - and I might knit this pattern again.

WIP :: Socks and Minions

Untitled

Reading: I'm still lingering in the wonderful world of The Forgotten Garden. I'm about halfway through it and I love the story! The first book by Kate Morton - The House At Riverton, left me a bit disappointed, but this one is SO good! Just hoping her next two books are just as good :)

Knitting and crocheting: Swallowtail is blocking - so fo post soon :) You know me, I must have a pair of socks on the needles. And Hubby still needs more socks, so I found a blue skein in my stash and casted on a simple rib sock. First one done and I'm starting the heel on the second one.
And as you can see, the minion is not done... Instead I had to cast on a second one. Both Endre and Eirin wanted one, so I think it's best I finish them at the same time ;) Hopefully I'll have them done this week.

WIP :: Swallowtail Shawl

Untitled

Reading: I picked up The Forgotten Garden a few days ago - and so far I love the story.
A tiny girl is abandoned on a ship headed for Australia in 1913. She arrives completely alone with nothing but a small suitcase containing a few clothes and a single book—a beautiful volume of fairy tales. She is taken in by the dockmaster and his wife and raised as their own. On her twenty-fi rst birthday, they tell her the truth, and with her sense of self shattered and very little to go on, "Nell" sets out to trace her real identity. Her quest leads her to Blackhurst Manor on the Cornish coast and the secrets of the doomed Mountrachet family. But it is not until her granddaughter, Cassandra, takes up the search after Nell’s death that all the pieces of the puzzle are assembled.

Knitting: After finishing three pair of socks latey, I felt the need for a shawl and some lace. So I casted on Swallowtail yesterday.

And we've been out hiking today as well :) Read more about that here.

FO :: Waihi

Waihi socks

I love these socks!
They are thick and warm (as I have knitted them in a little thicker yarn than I usually use for socks) and they have a beautiful pattern :)

Waihi socks

Patten: Waihi by Sezza
Modifications: In the pattern the sock has the lace and cable pattern in the front of the leg and just the lace pattern in the back. I wanted to have the lace and cable pattern all around the leg, so I casted on 70 sts and added 1 st at each end of chart A. Made the heel over 35 sts.
Yarn: 104 g Ida Strømpegarn #336. The colour is much darker than in the photos, so I think the two photos below shows the colour the best.
Needles: 2,5 mm
Size: Medium - about an european 39/40
Started: July 31 2013
Completed: August 13 2013

FO :: Autumn socks

Untitled

My socks in this pretty autumn colourway is finally off the needles. I had some trouble getting the stripes to match, but I think they came out matchy enough. I had to cut the yarn on the second pair several times and start on the next colour, as some of the stripes was longer than on the first sock.

Pattern: 64 st, a short k1,p1 rib, st st down the leg before a short k1,p2 rib and a short row heel.
Yarn: 66 g Drops Fabel #672p
Needles: 2,5 mm

WIP :: Socks and a minion

Untitled

Knitting and crocheting: I'm still working on my minion. Seems like it takes me forever to finish him... But I have promised the kids to have him done this week.
And I am knitting on two pairs of socks - both for me :) The red pair is making me frustrated as the stripes will not match.... And the purple pair is another one of Sazza's pattern - Waihi socks. Love the pattern! I have made some modifications, but more about that when they are finished.

Reading: Drømmeløs by Jørgen Brekke. This is the second book in a series about the detectiv Odd Singsaker. I loved the first book Nådens omkrets, and I don't think this one will dissapoint me!

In 1767, a poor singer escapes from Stockholm after having insulted the daughter of one of the city's most powerful men. The same year finds the drunken and quarrelsome policeman Nils Bayer a naked man on the shore rocks outside Trondheim.
Winter of 2011, a woman is found murdered in Kuhaugen in the same city. The killer has placed a music box with unknown tune on her chest. As a young girl disappears from her home,  investigator Odd Singsaker fear that they only have a short time before she too becomes a victim of the man with the music box.
The crimes are separated in time by almost 250 years. But one thing seems to tie the cases together, the fragile melody from the music box.
