First Snow & Bøvertun Sweater

The days just fly by and all of a sudden winter came over night.

The snow makes for a beautiful background for my Bøvertun sweater!
The pattern is from Kofteboken and is originally a kofte (cardigan), but I wanted a sweater. And I think this is my favorite sweater so far and it's going to get a lot of use this winter :)

Modifications: I made short rows in the back to get it higher in the neck

    

It's winter and time to knit new mittens. My youngest flipped through one of my mitten books and wanted these mittens with owls :)

Sunday had the perfect weather for snowshoeing to our lean-to were we fried sausages and just soaked up the sun. And my Barley hat matched my jacket and kept my head warm and toasty :)

FO :: Selbu Mittens

I've finished two pairs of Selbu mittens. I really like this pattern - it's easy to memorize and they fit perfectly on my hands.

We had a heavy snowfall this weekend so most part of Sunday was spent outdoors shoveling snow. Since the forecast had warmer weather and possible rain for this week we had to get the snow of the roof of our sheds. So it's great to have kids who can climb the roofs. Fun for him and we get the job done :)

Yarn Along

What are you knitting and reading this week? I'm joining Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along.

Knitting: For my birthday back in January I got sock yarn in five different colours from the same brand. One of them was blue and are my current socks on the needles. I plan to knit up all the other colours too and post them all at once :) I have knitted a pair of purple socks in the same yarn last year and they have been used a lot lately.
And I have finally knitted on my kofte. The yoke is almost done - just a few more rounds. I had to try it one today and it fits perfect. The sleeves are long enough and the same is the body. So I cant't wait to wear it soon.

Reading: I'm taking a little break from the crime/thriller genre and have picked up The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. I enjoy it. It's an enchanting story and I'm wondering how it's going to end...

We have had some wonderful winter weather the last few days and since the kids have their winterbreak this week, we've tried to be outdoors a little. Not so easy to drag them off their ipads and mobiles... but at least my eldest son accompanied me on a snowshoe hike the other day :)

    

    

Snowshoeing, Sunday Dinner in the Woods and Socks

We have had some wonderful weather this weekend and today we spent the day outdoors in our backyard aka the woods snowshoeing and frying sausages over the fire for dinner :)

The Sun is Back :)

We saw the first glimpse of the sun a few days ago and today she colored the mountaintops pink when we hiked to out lean-to in the forest.

It's cold today with -15 C, but we have a saying here in Norway - "There is not such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!" So if it's cold, put on warm clothes!

And a fire, hot tea and warm wool mittens makes you forget it's cold :)
I'm wearing my Rigmor's Selbu mittens, which has become my go to mittens when I'm outdoors. I think I'll have to knit up some more.

And finally the sun came out!
So good to now there is just lighter and longer days ahead!

The forest was filled with hare (and fox) tracks today. I'm wondering if the fox managed to get any dinner...

Snowcircles

The kids have their winterbreak this week and with a forcast with various weather, we just had to get out when the sun was shining :) While some went skiing up and down the hill, some of us made snowcircles. After we started to make them a few years ago it's been a fun yearly thing we do when the snow is right. Here are some post with snowcircles from previous years.
