Ludwig, Fishing and a Hike To Varto

After finishing my Not so matching stripes socks, I decided to use the remaining yarn for a pair of Ludwig socks. The pattern is from the Op-Art socks book by Stephanie van der Linden and it's my first time knitting mosaic knitting. Which I thought was complicated, but it really isn't as the effect is made by slipped stitches. So I think I 'll have to find another mosaic pattern to try out because these socks was really fun to knit - its almost like knitting a self striping sock, just one more stripe ;)

Yarn: Eventyr #901 and #903
Needles: 2,25 mm / US 1 and 2,5 mm / US 1.5 (for the cuffs only)
Size: 72 sts

The gusset decreases was knitted under the foot, a type of decrease I tend to like more and more as it doesn't interrupt the pattern as much.

We have been out fishing again. Still no luck catching some big fishes yet, but the boys had some fun time anyhow :)

After we tried our luck fishing we went on a little hike to Varto a small hilltop 216 masl nearby.

   

We walked by a few horses that was trying to find some shade up among the trees.

Hubby's brother and his girlfriend has bought a sheepfarm a few weeks ago. And we have been visiting them a couple of times this weekend. Eirin and Endre was so fond of these little motherless lambs. Lots of cuddling and love! And they got to help bottlefeed them too :) Sorry for some blurry photos, but neither kids or lambs could stand still for very long ;)
They also have hens and horses. So I guess there will be some riding later in the summer :)

How's your weekend been?

It's been a while

Since I've been writing here... It was not planned, but it felt great with a short break from blogging.
So far this Summer has been a rainy one. I'm not lying if I tell you it has been raining for almost two weeks witout a break. But today the sun is shining and it looks like she's here to stay for a couple of days :) Here's a little of what we've been up to these last weeks :)



Knitting



Demolishing, building and painting - we've knocked down the wall underneat the stairs, made a floor were the stairs down to the cellar was and now we have a much bigger hall. And I have a wall filled with book shelves which I call my library :)



Harvesting - Borage flowers, sugar peas, chives, radish and lettuce



Cloudberry picking

Watching our squirrel kids grow. We haven't seen them for days now, and I'm a bit worried that a cat that has been sneaking around here has scared them away :(

Snowing

I know there's been a lot of squirrel photos lately, but I just can't resist as they are so cute. . .
And yes, it is snow you see. . .  It's been snowing big, white, fluffy flakes this morning and the temperatur is bearly above 0 C. So I am wearing two pairs of wool socks, have a good fire going in the wood stove, hot tea in my cup and are about to cast on Wingspan :)

It's been a quiet weekend here.
Playing, knitting, a bit of bickering among the kids, mud paths and muddy clothes, jumping on the trampoline and icecreams.
Some time have been spent watching our squirrels :)
They are so cute and I really hope we will have squirell babies this year.
The south part of Norway are having some wonderful summer weather,
but we just try to ignore that here in the north ;)
Today the rain have been coming down more horizontal than vertical due to strong wind
... which is good in a way because it makes the ice on the water thaw and crumble.
Scones with strawberry jam and cheese, hot tea and a good heat from wood stove.
Watching all my plants grow and planing our garden.
Compare prices on the materials we need to fix the house and garden.
Really enjoying Labyrinth after a slow start:)

We had a rare visit yesterday by a little squirrel!

We gave it nuts, so we'll have to see if it comes back

now that it knows that there is food here.

Tiny socks

A tiny pair of socks for my shop. I've casted on for a matching pair of mittens too ;)

Pattern: It's a traditional norwegian pattern, and I think I've pulled it out of some kind of christmas magazine one year ;)
Yarn: Silja sock yarn
Needles: 2,5 mm
Size: 6.12 months

The weather is back to cold again after a few days with warm teperatures and rain. Enough rain to make the roads slippery again :(
But not enough to melt the little snow we have, so the water seems to have enough isolation to prevent it from freezing ;)
And with a clear sky the polar nights dosn't feel so dark, we could even see the sun paint the clouds pink the other day! And it's not many days until she turns, so the days will get lighter again :)

 

Remember the moose family we had wandering around our house last week??

Well, they left us after a few days and started to walk into the inland and the woods there. Like most of the mooses do. But on the way the mommy got hit by a tractor :( And they had to kill her due to her injuries...

I'm pretty sure it's the same family we had here, because she got hit not far from here and she had two little calves... So I really hope they will survive the winter. They need a winter with little snow to manage that.

Life just been busy this week and the polar nights makes my so tired I feel like I could sleep all day ;) So I haven't been able to take part in Merets's December blogging... I'm not sure if I'll jump in again - it was fun but I feel that so much else is happening now in December so finding time to blog each day is hard.

We've had four mooses spending time on the field below our house the whole week. It's a mother with two calves and her older calv that is following her. The kids have been a little thrilled when they have been waiting for the school bus in the mornings - hearing the mooses walk and eat, but not seeing them ;)

And we got lots of snow during the night - so finally there could be made snow angels :) It's still cold though, -17C, so the snow is all dry.

Eirin could finally put on her skates ;) It's in our yard and it was not so fun to shovel snow, so the rink got very small... I think the ice on our lake is thick enough too with all the low temperatures we've had lately. So maybe we'll have to shovel a rink for the kids there. I don't like to walk on ice very much - knowing it's lots of icecold water beneath it...

Lucky me - I won a give away over at Hunni :) The price was a skein of yarn - Little Traveller from The Sanguine Gryphon, but she had put a few other small items too in the package! Made my day :)

 

I know it dosn't look like the house I was aiming for... I didn't make the roof windows, and the icing dosn't get so shiny and white because we can't use eggwhites in it due to Endre's allergy. But I think it turned out pretty cosy - It's leaning a bit and might be a bit drafting - just like our house ;)
