What are you knitting and reading this week?
I'm joining Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along and Nicole at Frontier Dreams for Keep Calm and Craft On.

Knitting: A pair of vanilla socks is always great to have on the needles, and this week a pair of glitter yarn from opal has been fun to knit on :) I have found yarn for my next pair of socks. I have not knitted with arwetta, so I am eager to find out how it knits up. Not sure which pattern to pick yet, but I really want to make a pair of Matrim's Fox Socks.

Reading: I am still reading my way through The Fiery Cross, but have also picked up The Story of a New Name, the second book in the Neapolitan Novels. I think it's a great series so far and are looking forward to the next books.

What are you knitting and reading this week?
I'm joining Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along and Nicole at Frontier Dreams for Keep Calm and Craft On.

Knitting: With the cold and rainy weather we are having here in the north, a pair of mittens seems just right to have on the needles... The pattern is Tallulah's Heart.

Reading: I finished Drums of Autumn this moring - loved it! So of course I had to pick up The Fiery Cross right away, hoping it is just as good.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: I am trying to finish all the socks from last week. One pair of glitter socks came off the needles yesterday and I have started on the second green one for my son. But right now I am enjoying the Fireweeds pattern. They are a fast knit when I first decided to knit on them ;) So hopefully they will be off the needles in a few days.

Reading: The Buried Giant was in the new section at the library and caught my eye. I haven't read very far and I'm not sure if it's the translation or if it's just the author's writing style I just not seem to like... I wish the language had more flow.

The Romans have long since departed and Britain is steadily declining into ruin. But, at least, the wars that once ravaged the country have ceased. I do like to knit socks and I always have a pair or two on the needles, but I never thought I would get the second sock syndrome...
Well, it looks like it's here. Four and a half socks that needs a mate.
So I have decided that I'm not allowed to cast on a new sock until all of these pairs are done!

At the moment I am reading The Peculiar. I'm about halfway trough and it's starting to get a bit more exciting. It's a children's book, but when it's part murder mystery, part gothic fantasy and part steampunk adventure, I am sold!

Hi.
It's been a while since I posted, but life just happend...
Since last time the sun got back, we've been out shoveling snow before it all turned into ice, the skis has been taken for a ride and this week the kids have their winterbreak so we can sleep in :)
We went for a little skitrip earlier today and the snow is just perfect for skiing.

Knitting: I am still knitting mittens as the kids seem to never have enough... This is a pattern from an norwegian booklet.

Reading: I'm about halfway through Før flommen tas oss (Before the flood takes us). It's a swedish book and I don't think it's translated into english. It's not the kind of book I can't put down, but it's interesting and I hope for a somewhat happy ending.

Sofia got a job at the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka, and her husband Janne and their two young children follow her there. They look forward to living abroad for a few years, but the family's meeting with Bangladesh are not quite as they had imagined. They become overwhelmed by the swarming of people, the endless poverty, corruption and injustice.
Sofia fight against the cumbersome bureaucracy at the embassy and insights that aid money does not reach where they are most needed, while Janne more and more lose their footing. At home he was a socially committed teacher, here he is a rich foreigner who use the cheap labor.

Meanwhile two sisters are runing away from a rural area in Bangladesh. At home in the village yesterday they both had a bleak future: being married off to life in servitude in their husband's house. Neither Nazrin or Mina plan to be captured in a woman's role where they have to put up with everything - even live in fear of being burned to death, as their big sister Mukta was.
They travel to Dhaka and ends up in Sofia and Jannes house. Two cultures meet, a poor and a rich. Can the world change - before the flood takes them?

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: I fell in love with these mittens the first time I saw them on a group on Ravelry a few weeks ago and knew I had to make them. I was ready with graph paper and a pencil to try to make out the pattern by looking at the photos, but luckily a free pattern came not long ago :)

Reading: I finished a book last night, so I picked up Seven Sisters as my next read. I hope this will be a good book as I seem to not like all of Lucinda Riley's books...

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: I just had to join the An Enchanting Mystery mitten along after seeing all the pretty cuffs popping up on my instagram feed. So I found some leftovers of finull, pt2 and hifa and clue 2 is done. I like the colours, but the purple shades might be to close in colour. On the photo (which isn't a good one..) it looks like there is just one colour on the hand, but there is two different shades of purple. It looks better in real life.
I have also casted on a apir of vanilla socks in fabel. They are going to be a christmas gift. Yes, I'm starting early this year!

Reading: Det frosten tok (What the frost took) is a norwegian book about strong women  Women who can help each other, but who are on opposite sides in a serious conflict. I've halfway into it and I am liking it, but hopes there will be a little more "action" soon.

The year is 1811. The Napoleonic Wars and the English blockade has led to food shortages , and there have been several bad years in a row. The hard struggle for existence has led to animosity and clashes between mountain farmers and Sami north in Østerdalen . Lea and Marjja are standing on either side in the conflict, but after a dramatic assault on Sami, an unexpected friendship between the two women occurs. They stand together to save themselves and their children from famine and death. What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: I'm still on a mitten kick and this pair is for my youngest. I have only the thumbs left, so they will be done today. Then I'll have to cast on a pair for my daughter. She has requested owls on her mittens, so I'll need to go pattern hunting. The socks are for me and it is the Butterflies are Free pattern. 

Reading: Evna - the last book in the Ravneringene trilogy or Ravenrings as it's called in english. I love this series and you really have something to look forward when it's coming out in english. And it's also becoming a movie! So looking forward to it!!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: So I couldn't stay away from sock knitting very long ;) To make them a bit more interesting and not just the standard vanilla sock, I casted on a pair of Zigzagular Socks. The yarn is Regia Fluormania. The Saga Eskimo kofte is off the needles - so I just have to be brave and steek it!!

Reading: Still enjoying Drums of Autumn :)

On The Needles :: Saga Eskimo

Knitting: I have been wanting to knit Eirin a cardigan for a while now, but she is in that age where everything I suggest is stupid... But when I showed her Saga Eskimo from Kofteboken (a norwegian knitbook with new designs on old jackets or kofter as we call them) she nodded and agreed that it would be a nice jacket for her. But not with yellow and it had to be in a yarn that didn't itch... So when I found out that Sandnes Garn was about to discontinue the yarn Duo, which is a cotton and merino blend, I searched the net for a sale and found a shop that had it for half price :) She picked out a purple instead of yellow and now I am just crossing my fingers and hoping she will like it when it's done.

Drinking: Today I am having a cup of one of my go to teas - Blackcurrant tea from Twinings.

Reading: I picked up a stack of books at the library last week, and one of them was Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman. It was one of those books where the cover drew me in, but as I started reading, the story had me after a couple of pages too!! So I will have to check out her first book too - Saving CeeCee Honeycutt.

On the Needles :: Moos Garden Selfstriping Socks

Knitting: A pair of selfstriping socks for Hubby, knitted two at the time my way. I love how this yarn knit up and the colours are so bright and cheerful - makes it a fun project to knit on :) The yarn is Regia Ombre Stripe designed by Kaffe Fassett. I bought it from Love Knitting and I need to check if they have other colourways next time I decide to order some sock yarn.

Drinking: I stumbled over a norwegian teaclub a little while ago an decided to try them out. Yesterday my first package arrived and today I am trying out their Solnedgang (Sunset) tea. It's black tea flavoured with red orange.

Reading: I like a good crime novel and a good dystopian novel. So what can be better than a novel with both?? The Healer by Antti Tuomainen is a finnish book, but it is translated to several languages, and I must say it is very good! I do hope for a happy ending...

I have also finnished the socks I was knitting on last week. I like the colour, but the purple stripe above the heel on the left one irritates me a little bit.. Without it they would have looked a little more matching.

On the Needles :: More Waffles

Knitting: Seems like I am only knitting socks these days... And I guess I am. It's something calm and soothing about having a pair of socks on the needles. This is another pair of Blueberry Waffle socks - a great pattern if you want to have a mindless knit, but want to knit something else than a rib.

Drinking: A new favorite tea - Raspberry Rendezvous.

Reading: In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner. I really like this book, and the fact that it's based on a true story, just makes it better!

On the Needles :: Bure & Waffel Socks

Knitting: Still knitting on the Waffel socks from last time. And a new pair of socks are also on the needles - Bure. Love how the yarn stripes. I've finished some hats and a pair of socks, so some FO post are coming soon.

Reading: Last time I went to the library, I picked up some books from around the world so that I could add a few more countries to my list. The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson was one of them. The book is set in North Korea, and although I just started it last night and haven't read much, it seems like a good read.

On the Needles :: Molly and Waffle Socks

It's been a while since I've posted one of my On the Needles post...
Life just happend and I haven't felt much for either blogging or knitting these past few months. Hopefully things will change now as the sun is here again and my mood seems to get lighter.

So what am I reading. Since the Game of Thrones series is starting soon, I have to read ahead so I know what will happend ;) I started early in December and I'm still just halfway through A Dance with Dragons. I read a few chapter now and then when I have the house to my self.

On the needles are a hat - Molly, which I am knitting in a wool and cotton blend. So hopefuly Eirin will have it since I hope it won't be itchy.
And of course there is a sock lingering on the needles too ;)

Knitting again

Sorry about the terrible flash photo... The sun is getting low and it gets darker and darker earlier and earlier each day now.
I made it almost to a week without any knitting! It's been hard... But my arms and elbows are starting to feel better, so I decided to try some knitting today. I'm taking it easy and are trying to knit slower than I usualy do... So hopefully the pain will stay away.

Knitting: I casted on a pair of Marius socks as I need more thick woolsocks. The colours are a bit darker in real life.

Reading: After a few rows of knitting I read a chapter in A Feast for Crows. Love this series!

Reading: I finished Shadow of Night last night - and I really need to buy the third book soon. Because it's such a great series!!
I needed another genre, so of course I picked out another chunk of a book - The Distane Hours by Kate Morton. I have loved the other books I've read by her, so I hope this too is a good one.

A long lost letter arrives in the post and Edie Burchill finds herself on a journey to Milderhurst Castle, a great but moldering old house, where the Blythe spinsters live and where her mother was billeted 50 years before as a 13 year old child during WWII. Knitting: After I finished the Hitchhiker my knitting mojo seemd to come back, and I looked through my ravelry queue and found the Settler Shawl by Truly Myrtle. And I found the perfecy yarn to knit it with in my stash - a skein of Serenity Silk Single from Zen Yarn Garden. A skein I've been saving for the right project for years. I have a few more rows before I'll start the body pattern. Can't waiy to wrap this soft smooshy shawl around my neck!

On The Needles :: Rye... again

After several days of warm sunny weather with temperatures up to 17 C, we woke up to low clouds all the way down the mountain sides and colder temperatures. So a fire was needed to keep us warm and cosy this morning.

Knitting: As you know, I'm trying to knit up my sockyarn stash and for some reason I seem to cast on a lot of Rye socks ;) This is my 6th pair, but really, I love this simple yet decorative pattern.
The Menehune shawl is off the needles and just need to be blocked. And I frogged the Nurmilintu shawl.

Reading: I started a new book last night - The Sign by Raymond Khoury. I love this mystery thriller genre, so I hope this is a good one.
I still have a few chapters left of Shadow of Night, which I love, so I am trying to make it last as long as I can ;)

On The Needles :: Shawls and socks

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: My Nurmilintu which just had a few rows knitted last week is almost done. I just have the last lace border left to knit, but I'm thinking about frogging it... Yes, that's right. Frog it. I like the colours and the pattern, but it's not long enough to be a scarf one can wrap around the neck the way I like it. So I think I'll use the yarn for a Hitchhiker instead.
I watch some podcasts and I found out that Mel from Singlehandedknits can use both her hands again and have started a new podcast - With Mel. And we can knit along with her on one of her new shawlette patterns Menehune. So of course I had to find some yarn and cast on when I watched the first episode :) I'm going to make it bigger and use up most of my yarn, so I'll have to do a little math before I start knitting the edge.
And of course there is a pair of socks on the needles too ;) I've decided to use up all of my pretty skeins I've been saving, before I can buy some new ones. And sometimes the yarn are prettier in the skein than knit up as a sock... But then again I've never been a hugh fan of yarn that pools... But Erlend is happy for a new pair of socks and doesn't care, so I just knit to get them off the needles so I can find another skein and cast on another pair ;)

Reading: The same books as last week. Shadow of Night is great and I manage to read a few chapters each night in bed. And I'm almost done with City of Ashes and I think it's just as good as the first book City of Bones.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

Knitting: I finished the last pair out of three ankle socks for Hubby this morning. More info and pictures below. There's been a lot of socks on my needles lately, so I felt the urge to cast on something else... A few days ago I saw a new shawl on Ravelry and just knew I had to make it. So I dived into my stash and found a skein that's been there for years and casted on. Not sure if it's my kind of colours, but so far it knits up beautifully. The pattern is Nurmilintu and the yarn is Shine by Spunky Eclectic.

Reading: As you can see I'm reading the second book in two series :) I finished A Discovery of Witches and City of Bones last week and had to start their sequels Shadow of Night and City of Ashes right away! So far they both live up to the first books.

Historian Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, and long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont have broken the laws dividing creatures. When Diana discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library,she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to Matthew. On the Needles :: Summer socks

Knitting: Hubby wanted some ankle socks he could wear to work when it's hot, so I went through my stash and found some left over skeins. I might have to add in a second colour for the heel and toe, but we'll see.

Reading: I've not been reading as much as I would have liked to this summer...
I've read Divergent, and liked it so much I guess I'll need to buy the next boks in the series.
I'm still reading my way throuhg a Discovery of Whitches. I love this book and it's so much better this second time I'm reading it. Can't wait to start on the second book in the series :)
I needed another book to bring with me outdoors and to pick up when I'm not knitting, and I found City of Bones in my shelf. Love it!! And lucky me - I have the next two books waiting on the shelf as well :)
