Weekending

- this weekend we've had all kinds of weather, rain, hail, sun, wind, sun, frost and snow
- snowball war
- we have cleared up all the outdoors toys and the garden funitures
- knitting (ofcourse)
- 3 layers of clothes, the temperatures has only been at 2 C during the day
- the smell of wet woll hanging to dry
- helpfull kids :) they've help us clear up in the cellar and shoveling gravel
- spending to much time on pinterest...

Cloudberry picking

Eirin and I headed out in the forest this afternoon looking for cloudberries. In Norway cloudberries is known as the gold among berries. Everyone have their own secret bog. This year is a good year for cloudberries due to the warm summer we have had. We hoped for lots of cloudberries, but someone have been out picking before us... So we just found about 1 liter. But it's enough since I am the only one that eats cloudberries in this household ;)

I didn't plan to take a blog break, but it just happend and it have felt good with a couple of weeks not blogging or reading other blogs. (I'm trying not to think about all the blog post waiting for my in my reader though...) So what have I've been doing? Well, there have been knitting :), we've enjoyed fall and all it's great things and hubby and I got married on October 1st :) We had a small wedding with just the closest family for dinner. I guess it was about time after 12 years being engaged ;)

Anyway, the first snowfall came yesterday, and I managed to knit up a vest for Eirin just in time :) Sorry about the greyish pictures, but the light is not great at 7:25 am - I had to capture a few pictures before the schoolbus came ;)

And as you can see, it dosn't take much snow to make a snowman ;)

Pattern: Tunika med rund sal by Unn Søiland Dale from  the booklet Sandnes Til Fjells 0913 Barn/Voksne.
Yarn: Viking of Norway Baby Ull. About 150 g dark grey, 50 g white and a little bit of pink.
Needles: 2,5 mm & 3 mm.
Size: 8 years.

A close up of the pattern. There is a women sized version too which I really want to knit for myself.

This green yarn called my name at the local yarn shop a while ago, and they ended up as a pair of socks for hubby.
Pattern: 64 st, toe-up, short-row heel. A small rib just above the heel and a rib cuff.
Yarn: Drops Fabel #542.
Needles: 2,5 mm.

And you can see why Fall is my favourite season - the weather and the colour changes so fast. One day we had temperatures down at -6 C, which made a beautiful frosting on everything. And after the first storm all the leaves were gone and the only colour left was all the rowan berries.

Baby sweater and a hike

First of all I'll have to let you know that I'm working on importing our hiking blog into this on. It's just to much work to blog in several places... So I know there will be some links not working and maybe some post in the past that will have the same story in different ways, but I hope I'll get around and fix some of it ;)

A friend of mine gave birth to a adorable little girl on Endre's birthday! So finally I could cast on for this sweet little jacket.

Pattern: Baby Sweater on Two Needles by Elizabet Zimmermann.
Yarn: 68 g Babyull from Gjestal # 823.
Needles: 3,5 mm.
Notes: Button holes on row 4, 20, 36, 52, 68, 84 and 100
Increase on row 9, 17 and 27
Start gull pattern on row 28
I knitted the sleeves on dpns afterwards
Put the sleeve st on hold on row 45
After 93 rows I started the garter-st ending
I knitted 40 rows on the sleeve before I started the garter-st ending. I might have knitted a few rows more, because they got a little short.

After a very rainy day yesterday, with the rain pouring down, we had to get those ants out of the kids pants ;) So we went hiking. We made a new "toy" - some ropes to practise the balance on.

The tabanus and deer flies have come with the heat :(  Here's Endre examining one after it's been hit.

And the bog is full of unripe cloudberry :)

The first frost

The first frost came this weekend... We woke up to a world covered in rime.
The bog was suddenly hard to walk on and the air was sharper.

But the sun came out during the day and turned everything wet...

And on these, a little cold days, it's good with warm
dinner cooked over a primus ;)

A better view

After several days with rain and wind, it was great to woke
up to a sunny and no wind day ! So we packed our backpacks and went to the forest ;)

Today have we (beside picking lingons) sawed down some trees and
underbushes so we could get a better view down to the lake.

But everyone needs something good to eat - and today it was
baguetts with ham and cheese baked at the fire ;)

But some take it without filling... It's not always easy to be on a trip
when you are allergic. And today didn't any filling tempt him...

And for dessert - baked bananas with chocolate.

And 5 liter lingon was fast to pick ;) So tomorrow
there will be jam making.

Looking for tadpoles

We have a tiny little pond by the bog, and we can find tadpoles there each year.

As you can see there is not much water in this little pond, even
after a week of rain... So it dries up every summer. We hope some of
these little tadpoles grows up to be small frogs before that happens.

Here Endre has managed to get some up in his pot :)

Afterwards we went for a walk at the meadow looking for flowers and bugs.

The gras starting to get high now and it smells so good!

Finally great weather

After days (weeks) with rain, the weather got better today, And despite some cold wind we packed our backpacks and headed out in the forest today.

The girls are having a break on our "big rock" on the way up.

The forest has finally turned green and the cabin blends in with the forest.

The bog if covered with cloudberry flowers.
So we just hope it will be just as much cloudberries.

Parts of the bog is covered with dwarf birch.



We found several kinds of mosses and lichens. this is cup lichen.

When it comes to knowing the names of mosses and lichen,
I'm not good. But I know that the one at the bottom to the
right is reindeer lichen.

And there is still some spots with snow left on places with very little sun.

"Kjuke"
It's a hard grey fungus which grows on birch and finally kill them. In the old days they used the soft material in the middel to catch the sparks when using flint and steel to make fire. They also used it to stop bleeding.

And they can be wings of a butterfly ;)

The house of the forest faries..?

On our way home the kids found this little nest with tiny little bird babies
just beside the path. So we have to go up and chech if they grow up.
