Prism Socks & Easter Crime

Since it's Easter I had to start reading a thriller or crime story as we like to call it here in Norway. I've just read a few chapter in The Marsh King's Daughter by Karen Dionne. And so far it seems to be a good story. Reading and watching crime series on tv is something we Norwegians typically do during Easter. Even our milk cartons has a cartoon crime mystery we can solve and win a prize if you send in the answer ;) This year Hubby and I are watching the last season of Shetland on tv and we really like it. They are showing the last two episodes tonight, so I guess we'll have to watch something on Netflix the rest of Easter. We started watching some episodes of the Frankenstein Chronicles a couple of weekends ago, so I think we'll pick that up if we don't find another good crime series instead.

My knitting mojo isn't what it once was due to the things happening in life at the moment. But socks seems to knit them selves. This is a pair of Prism socks, a free pattern and I'm using some leftover yarns together with some plain white. They are not going to be matchy as the two balls of pink/orange yarn didn't start on the same place, but I don't care ;)

I've also finished some socks the last month or so. I'm not going to post them all here, but you can find them on my Ravelry page. This is however the latest pair I finished as part of the only kal I've joined so far this year - 12i18, a sock kal hosted by Garnbutikken Fortuna, a Norwegian yarn store and podcast. We are knitting a pair of socks each month from Norwegian designers. This pair is designed by one of the owners of Fortuna and it's called Parus Major, which is the bird Great Tit or Kjøttmeis in Norwegian. Mine does not look like the bird as I have used pink and purple instead of yellow and black.

Selbugloves

After almost three months of beautiful, but oh so cold weather (-20 C) we got some fresh snow and milder temperatures. Perfect for Easter break. We've been out snowshoeing, skiing and made food over the fire several days now and I really hope the great weather will continue as long as the Easter breaks last.

I made my youngest a pair of gloves with moose on at the end of last year, but they are already used up (he has worn them so much they got holes..) so he requested a pair of new ones. This time I made them in a thicker yarn which is superwash, so hopefully they will not wear out so fast. I really like the little pop of green on the cuffs :)

Weekending :: Enough with the snow now, please!

It's been a long weekend here as the Easter holidays start Wednesday afternoon before Maundy Thursday, and end on Tuesday morning after Easter Monday. This makes for a nice long Easter weekend in Norway!
And as you might know, Easter here in Norway is all about skiing, hiking, soaking up sun and read/watch crime mysteries.
Well, there haven't been any skiing and no sun, but a lot of snow and plenty of time for reading my mystery books...
This last week we have been out shoveling snow almost every day.
We have over a meter of snow no...Fun for the kids as they can dig snowcaves, but I, who had hopes for an early spring, just *sighs*...
Today we had to shovel the roofs because it's going to rain next week.
The kids was not hard to ask as they normally are not allowed to walk on the roofs ;) 
Despite all the snow we have had a great weekend after all with
Eastereggs filled with candy (trying to ignore the kids high on sugar...)

Hubby and I finally got the time to catch up on season two of Game of Thrones, so now we are ready to start watching the third season

We are having Easter break here, so the days have been lazy with a little extra sleep in the mornings and a few more hours in front of the tv at night watching crime series. In Norway, Easter break is longer than in many other European countries. The Easter holidays start Wednesday afternoon before Maundy Thursday, and end on Tuesday morning after Easter Monday. This makes for a nice long Easter weekend in Norway!

And we norwegian likes to spend as much time as we can outdoors during Easter. Skiing, hiking or just soaking up the sun (if there is one). So far we've had sunny days, but today it's snowing big white snowflakes and all thoughts about Spring is gone... 

A quite peculiar national trait in Norway is solving crimes during Easter. Publishers churn out series of books known as "Easter-Thrillers" or Påskekrimmen. Even the milk cartons change to have murder stories on their sides ;) So far Hubby and I have watched Whitechapel and I know there will be some episodes of Inspector Lewis later in the week. I had hopes there would be Poirot or Miss Marple, as I love those series. But maybe next year...

Reading: So as it's Easter I had to look for a crime book in my shelf ;) Myren (Jar City in english) is an Icelandic novel by Arnaldur Indridason. So far it's good and I hope the who did it won't reveal it self too fast. And I just love the names on Iceland - Erlendur is the name of the detective in the book.

I'm also trying to finish a norwegian series during Easter. I started book #15 Nattmannen this morning. It's 20 books in this series so I think I should manage to read the rest. As I don't have to get up early I can read for hours in bed ;)

Knitting: As I've been sick with the flu I haven't kitted much... with a heavy head it's better to read than managing stitches. But I have finished one Octopus mitten since last week and have started the second :) They seem to be a little small though, so they might end up at Eirin's hands instead of mine... We'll see after some blocking. The Stripe Tease socks haven't grown much. I'm about to start the second stripe. And I have started a new pair of socks. Not sure if I'll knit the plain or make a pair of Jaywalkers. I think they might be pretty in just plain stripes.

You Capture :: Spring

When I saw that this week's challenge was spring, I just had to sigh, because there is not much that looks like spring around here... The rain and snow has been pouring down the last week together with lots of wind. Ofcourse the snow is melting, but it's just a slushy mash. I so long to hike to our lean-to in the forest, but the snow is so rotten... So I really hope this last meter of snow will melt fast in the weeks to come!

The kids are having a fun time in the swing though after we moved away some snow ;)

 

And with the wet, new snow yesterday we managed to biuld a Easter Bunny :) Have a great Easter everyone.

Easter

We've had a dream Easter here in the north of Norway! In Norway Easter is all about being outdoors skiing or hiking. So how great the weather have been is crucial on how great the Easter have been ;) So we can't complain! The temperatures have been over 10 C some days, and the snow is melting fast. But with very low temperatures by night (down to -14 C some nights) the snow have been quite hard to walk on.

I even brought my knitting with me in the forest the other day. It's a sock if you wondered ;)

Due to the hard snow, the sledding conditions have been perfect! And the steeper hills the better. You can see more pictures in our hiking blog :)

And I really hope spring is here to stay now. We already have the mud and have seen a couple of butterflies :) But I guess we still have some snow coming during Pentecost. It's called "Pinseria" - it's a cold weather period that usually comes around Pentecost. And we also have "Reinkalvria". From old times it's the time when the reindeers give birth to their calves. I guess the snow is helping the calves to become strong and healty.

Wurm

Anyone who have tried to take a picture of them self know how difficult it is! I think I took over 25 shoots to get a couple I could use... I've been meaning to knit myself a hat all winter, but haven't found any hat that I liked until I saw Wurm. I'm not a hat person and I don't look good in hats at all, but this one wasn't too bad actually ;)

Yarn: 73 g Silja sock yarn.
Needles: 3,5 & 4 mm.

And as you can see from the pictures, the weather is GREAT! The sun is warming a lot now, so the kids and I could have some snack outdoors yesterday without our mittens and a lot of clothes on. So spring is finally coming to our parts in the world too ;)

In Norway the kids gets an Easter egg filled with candy on Maundy Thursday :) So we'll have to see who manage to make the candy last until Monday ;) I think some of them have made a big dive in the candy already...

And ofcourse we have to enjoy the weather today too! We've been up in the hills sledding and frying sausages already. Now the clothes are drying infront of the wood stove so we can make another trip outdoors. And this time I'll bring my knitting :)

We haven't got our new hard disk for the laptop yet, so I'm trying to blog from our old and very slow stationary computer... Just a quick post to wish you all a Happy Easter! We've had some great weather this week until today... It's raining, and I really hope it will stop. Because I'm so looking forward to some days at our lean-to, skiing and sledding.

Since I haven't spent time on the net, I really have had time to knit :) I have knitted up a pair of jaywalkers, these socks are soon done and I hope to have these mittens off the needles within the wekend.

Gode dager! / Good days!

Nå har vi hatt to dager med strålende vær. I dag har vi hatt nærmere 15 grader, men en sur og kald nordavind gjorde det litt kald. Men ingen tvil om at sommeren snart er her :) Så jeg har smurt niste, kokt meg en termos med te og tatt strikkekurven og unger med meg ut - og der har vi vært. I går var jeg og Endre ute i 6 timer. Var en som var sliten da vi gikk inn og har sovet som en stein i natt :)

We've had two days now with great weather. Today we had close to 15 C, but a cold wind from north made it a bit cold though. But there's no doubt that the summer is coming :) So I've packed lunch, filled a thermos with tea and taken the kids and my knitting basket with me outside. Yesterday Endre and I spent 6 hours outdoors. He was tired when we went inside and he's been sleeping like a rock all night :)


Her er trikkekurven min. Er sokker det går i når jeg er ute sammen med ungene... Er det enkleste å holde på med. Men jeg har også begynt på en genser til Endre, skimtes nede til venstre. For komme tilbake til den en annen dag ;)

Heres my knitting basket. I knit socks when I'm out with the kids... It's the simplest. But I've casted on for a sweater to Endre. You can see it down to the left. I'll post more about it another day ;)

Denne dukka opp i garasjen denne uka. Svigerfar lagde slike til ungene for to år siden. Endre ble veldig begeistret :)

This one poped up in the garage this week. My father in law made these for the kids two years ago. Endre was thrilled about it :)

Til slutt et bilde av klesvasken. Kanskje ikke så spennende, men det er ikke mye som lukter så godt som klær tørket i sol og vind :) Og med det gode været og vinden de siste dagene, har jeg fått vaska alt av vinterklær og pakka dem bort - deilig!

Finally a picture of my laundry. Maybe not so exciting, but there's not much smelling so good as sun and wind dried laundry :) And with the geat weather the last days, I've washed all the winter clothes and stuffed them away - great!

Påskehare / Easterbunny

Vi våkna til strålende sol fra skyfri himmel, men det varte ikke lenge... Men ungene trengte å lufte seg, så vi gikk ut i hagen og lagde en snøpåskehare :)

We wake up to a brilliant weather with sun from a cloudfree sky, but it didn't last very long... The kids had to get some air, so we went out in the garden and made a snow easterbunny :)

God Påske / Happy Easter

Nå er det påskeferie, men det ser mørkt ut for fin vær her oppe i nord... I dag er det regn og mye vind! Så det blir vel lite pølsegrilling regner jeg med. Men ungene og jeg har da funnet frem påskepynten :) Mangler bare bjørkeris for å henge eggene på, men har ikke hært meg ut i styggeværet... Ønsker alle som er innom ei fin påske!

It's easter break, but it's bad weather forecast up here in the north... Today it's raining and it's a lot of wind! But the kids and I have looked up the easter decorations :) Just miss some birch rod to heng the eggs on, but I haven't picked any because of the rain... I wish everyone poping by a happy easter!
