Sagavoll, Sovereign and Don't Take Your Water For Granted

I've picked up my Sagavoll kofte again and hopefully I'll finish it before I cast on a new sweater. I feel like casting on all the sweaters the last few days :) The last time I was knitting on it I was also reading about the lawyer Matthew Shardlake. I really enjoyed the last book and have now started the third book in the series Sovereign.  I am also reading a non fiction book about how the start of educating midwifes started here in Norway in the late 1700.

Last time I knitted on this I actually finished the yoke and have just the steeking, button bands and the neck left to knit. But it seems to be the hardest part to knit though...

This is my third pair of Prism socks. They are so addictive to knit and great for using up leftover yarns! I'm sure it won't be the last pair I'll knit.



As I mentioned last time we hoped for some great weather during Easter. Well that didn't happen. It snowed almost every day and we ended up getting over 50 cm of snow. So a lot of snow shoveling and not so much of skiing in other words. But on Monday, the last day in the break we woke up to some wonderful weather :) Yesterday was also sunny and warm, so my youngest and I went for a ski trip after school.
We have had a strange winter weather wise this year. All January, February and half of March has been cold, windy and dry with no snow or rain. So that means the ground as well has dried up and our water well is almost empty. Someone compared the weather we've had to an arctic desert. So for the last two months we have been almost out of water :( Hubby have to fill up big water cans twice a week and we have to do the laundry at my moms. So I am SO ready for spring now and for all I care it can rain for weeks now so we can get our water back again. 10 years ago we were out of water from late January to June, but that time the water froze and I remember how strange it was to have running water again after all those months! Fortunately this time we have running water, but it's not enough of it for normal day to day use... But that's life on the country side in the arctic and it is strange how fast one adapt to not having enough or no running water at all ;)
But people - Don't take your water for grated!

Selbugloves

After almost three months of beautiful, but oh so cold weather (-20 C) we got some fresh snow and milder temperatures. Perfect for Easter break. We've been out snowshoeing, skiing and made food over the fire several days now and I really hope the great weather will continue as long as the Easter breaks last.

I made my youngest a pair of gloves with moose on at the end of last year, but they are already used up (he has worn them so much they got holes..) so he requested a pair of new ones. This time I made them in a thicker yarn which is superwash, so hopefully they will not wear out so fast. I really like the little pop of green on the cuffs :)

Snowcircles

The kids have their winterbreak this week and with a forcast with various weather, we just had to get out when the sun was shining :) While some went skiing up and down the hill, some of us made snowcircles. After we started to make them a few years ago it's been a fun yearly thing we do when the snow is right. Here are some post with snowcircles from previous years.

I've finally bought buttons for my Nancy jacket.
I'm not super happy about the fit, but it's good enough to wear around the house.

Since I made it from thicker yarn, I had to use the pattern for the Nancy sweater to get the right gauge.

Weekending :: The start of Easter

Easter break started for the kids and hubby on Friday afternoon
and they will not go back to school and work until April the 2nd.
So we can sleep a little longer, stay up a little later and hopefully spend a lot of time outdoors :)
We went skiing on Saturday.
The sun came out for a few hours, but since then it's been snowing and snowing.
Homemade pizza.
I stayed up late and watched the last episodes in the 5th series of True Blood.
And I must say I am so disappointed - what happend to this series?
I really liked the books, but there is little left from the books in the series...
I felt the need for a new project, so I unwinded some yarn and casted on a shawl.
We ate dinner with my mom and my siblings today.
We brought home a "new" kitchen table and chairs :)
The easter decorations has been brought up from the basement, 
but still sits in the box. I'll get the kids to decorate tomorrow.
I haven't had time to knit today, so I'm going to curl up on the sofa and knit a few rows on the shawl.

Weekending

It feels like this weekend has flown away...
We've been skiing/snowshoeing.
The sun is starting to feel somewhat warm :)
I've made cereal - yummy!
Lots of lego and Ninja Turtles.
Bread baking.
Dinner plans for the coming week.
Knitting, knitting and more knitting. FO post coming soon :)
A trip to the library - so I have a few books I'm eager to start reading.
Planning new knit projects.
And of course tea.

Weekending :: The Sun is back

This weekend started with a trip to my local yarn store :)
I am trying not to buy so much yarn this year, but all of these skeins are
for planned projects. Mostly socks.
We have spent a lot of time outdoors.
We went skiing and snow shoeing in the woods.
Endre has finally gotten the hang of it and he is so proud of himself :)
Sunday breakfast with homebaked rolls and tea.
Jumping temperatures with -20 C today as the coldest.
But with two layers of wool underneat our winter clothes it's not that cold.
So we headed out today and
made a fire, fried some sausages, drank cocoa
and welcomed the sun which we finally can get a glimpse of through the woods!
There's been some knitting and planning of new projecst to cast on.
Hubby and I have watch the first season of Sherlock
- great series. Just hoping netflix will get the second series soon.
And we have made more ice lanterns.

Weekending

- We've had a vistit by Jostein, a canadian minipig :) Eirin SO want one now...
- Wonderful sunny weather, perfect for sledding and skiing at the lean-to
- Hours and hours spent outside playing in the snow
- Digging snowcaves and building snowforts
- Knitting
- New books in the mail, so looking forward to start the 4th book in the Tunnels series

Nature Connections :: March

Nature Connections is a collaborative link collection posted at the end of each month on Living and Learning.
Its purpose is to showcase photos of children enjoying nature to inspire all of us to get outdoors more.

I wish I could say we had been outdoors a lot this month, but we haven't. The first two weeks of March was filled with some great weather. The sun started to warm and the snow was perfect.  (You can read more about our outdoors adventures then here and here.) But then we had snow - lots of it. It snowed almost a whole week non stop... So we have about 1 meter of fresh snow outside right now. We were hoping for spring this last part of March, but that didn't happend.

Skiing

The kids have their winter break from school this week. But due to really bad weather since friday we haven't been much outdoors... So today we started to get a bit cabin fever here and just had to get out. The wind was blowing hard, but the temperatures was up around 5 C, so it was not cold :) The sun even came out after a little while and stayed with us until we headed in again :)

The boys are not the biggest fan of skiing, but Endre had a "aha" moments when he finally managed to get up by himself (most of the times) after falling. So he thinks skiing is quite fun now :) But he so tries to go with the same speed as his siblings and therefore he falls.

Eirin is the one who loves when it goes fast. She went up and down the hill so many times and only fell once or twice.

It was great to get outdoors again, and I really hope the weather will be like this a few more days. The forecast for the weekend is more snow, which I don't want! I'm loonging for spring now...
