What's on your needles today?

Knitting: I'm finally starting to see the end of my Nancy cardigan. I had to send it to my mom this weekend so she could sew the seams in the front with her sewing machine as mine is not working right... I picked up the stitches for the button bands earlier today and have knitted a few rows. Hopefully I will have it done by the end of the week :) I think I have some old buttons I can use. If not I'll have to make it to the yarn store. I'm almost done with my pair of Angee. Love how they knit up!
I saw a pair of Rye knitted in fingering yarn on a blog a while ago, and knew I had to make some one day. Well, it's the perfect mindless project so I just cast on the number of stitches I normally do for a pair of vanilla socks and the first one just flew off the needles :)

Reading: I finsihed The Search for the Red Dragon this weekend and it was good. I didn't know what to read next, but I had picked up Reached from the library a while ago, so I gave it a try. The first two books in this dystopian series was quite good, but I just couldn't get into this one, so I gave up.
Instead I'm going to finish Blacklands which have been sitting among my knitting and I've been reading a few pages now and then. Not sure what I'll read after that - there are SO many books I want to read!!

I haven't been knitting much today as the baking mojo hit me :)
Great to fill up the freezer with bread, cinnamon rolls and ham and cheese rolls!

Weekending

Weekending, my favorite part of the week. A time to relax, live, love, just to be.
Joining with Amanda.

It's been a weekend mostly spent in the kitchen
with kakemenn, julebrød and a gingerbreadhouse.
We've also decorated the christmastree.
I'm still knitting mittens as gifts and hopefully I
will have 4-5 new pairs to show you soon.
We've been watching Dr. Who this weekend too.
The kids are hooked, so I think I will knit them
something Dr. Who related next year ;)
Oh, and I have joined instagram, follow me if you like :)

Cinnamon Bun Day

Did you know Sweden has an entire day devoted to cinnamon buns? Kanelbullens dag (Cinnamon Bun Day) started in 1999 when the Home Baking Council celebrated its 40th anniversary. The day was created to celebrate Sweden’s rich tradition of bullar, or buns, and now it has become a tradition held every year on October 4.

So I  baked a bunch of them this morning- knowing the kids will be thrilled when they comes home from school :)

So good and erfect to enjoy while knitting, but so hard to just eat one... The mittens are almost done - just the tip of the second one and the thumbs left.

So it's a good thing it's Soctober, because there is so many socks I want to cast on from this book.

And I know you'd like one or two of these don't you..?
So here is the recipe :)

Cinnamon Rolls - You get approx 30 big rolls from this dough

1200 g flour
200 g sugar
140 g butter
7 dl milk
50 g yeast
2 teaspoons cardamom
2 teaspoons salt

Filling

Butter, sugar and cinammon

Mix all dry ingredients and mix well.
Melt the butter and add the milk. Heat until it is lukewarm.
If you use fresh yeast, stir it into the butter and milk mixture before you add it to the dry ingredients.
Knead the dough well and set it to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size.
Roll the dough out into a large rectangle.
Spread the butter and sprinkle with desired amount of sugar and cinnamon.
Roll into a sausage. And cut approx. 30 pieces of 3-4 cm thickness.
Let them raise the baking sheets until they have doubled in size.
Sprinkle with pearl sugar just before baking.
Bake at 200 C for ca. 15 minutes.
Let them cool on a rack.

Weekending :: Snowfort and cupcakes

It's been a weekend filled with
- Snow, yes, it's still coming...
- Finishing the onesie
- Piles of laundry
- Cupcakes
- A bottle of wine
- Finally the 3rd season of Game of Thrones is here
- Shoveling away the now on the patio so we can use it when the sun starts to warm
- And build a snowfort with the lumps of snow we shoveld away

Weekending :: Enough with the snow now, please!

It's been a long weekend here as the Easter holidays start Wednesday afternoon before Maundy Thursday, and end on Tuesday morning after Easter Monday. This makes for a nice long Easter weekend in Norway!
And as you might know, Easter here in Norway is all about skiing, hiking, soaking up sun and read/watch crime mysteries.
Well, there haven't been any skiing and no sun, but a lot of snow and plenty of time for reading my mystery books...
This last week we have been out shoveling snow almost every day.
We have over a meter of snow no...Fun for the kids as they can dig snowcaves, but I, who had hopes for an early spring, just *sighs*...
Today we had to shovel the roofs because it's going to rain next week.
The kids was not hard to ask as they normally are not allowed to walk on the roofs ;) 
Despite all the snow we have had a great weekend after all with
Eastereggs filled with candy (trying to ignore the kids high on sugar...)
Cake
Hubby and I finally got the time to catch up on season two of Game of Thrones, so now we are ready to start watching the third season

Påskeliljer
A lot of wet mittens, hats and outdoor clothes due to playing in the snow
And as usual, Endre is awake early when he knows he doesn't have to go to school... He's been up 6 am every morning. Just in time to watch Scooby Doo ;)

On the needles

Reading: I'm still in the world of Matthew Shardlake and I love this mystery story set in the Tudor time! I am also reading a few norwegian historical fiction series - Tre Søstre, Årringer and Nattmannens datter.

Knitting: I am about to start the heels on the socks I'm knitting for Hubby's brother. Yes, I am knitting all four socks at the same time ;) It goes faster that way. The purple projects is a hat. Hopefully it will fit Eirin.

The kids have their winter break this week. So far we have spent it indoors due to a heavy rainstorm. It's been raining more or less nonstop since Friday. It hasen't rained this much in this area in February for over 50 years... So there has been a lot of flooding and snow and slush avalanches. The roads have been flooded and are very slippery as they are full of ice. It seem like the worst will be over by tomorrow, so hopefully we can spend some time outdoors this weekend :) 

Today we have baked cinnamon knots - yummy!

We have had a bit of spring cleaning here
and I even went through my yarn stash.
So good to know what I have and where to find it ;)

It's been a very windy weekend with a bit of rain as well.
But it good as it makes the snow melt.
The kids have defied the elements and jump for hours on the trampoline
and have just been indoors to warm up and grab something to eat.

We put up and decorated the tree last weekend :)

The gingerbread house was also made last weekend :)  Pattern for this house can be found in the book "Nå er det jul igjen" by Gerd Alfsen. And we visited Pepperkakebyen (Gingerbread city).
The last week have been filled with mitten knitting, buying the last Christmas presents and watching the kids sing in a Christmas play at their school.

Yarn: Silja sock yarn and some pink yarn from my stash
Needles: 2,5 mm
Size: I hoped these would fit Eirin, but they turned out just too small for her. So I must knit her a new pair...

Pattern: Annemor #4 by Terri Shea
Yarn: Viking baby ull
Needles: 2,5 mm
Size: They fit Endre, but they are very narrow so if I should knit them again I would add more st.

Pattern: Norwegian Totoro Mittens by brella
Yarn: A little less than 100 g of each colour. I've used Mor Aase superwash
Needles: 3 mm
Size: Adult. I've added st so it would be bigger.

Robot Dance and Hedgehog Rolls

Endre's sweater is off the needles!

 I love the robots! I might use them on a pair of mittens for him :)

Pattern: Dance of Robots by Soile Pyhänniska
Yarn: 218 g Viking Baby Ull in these colourways, #329, #324 and #326
Needles: 2,5 & 3 mm

Eirin made these cute little hedgehog rolls a couple of days ago :)
Make your favourite roll dough. Shape them into ovals and cut a few notches with a pair of scissors. We used peppercorns for eyes and nose, but most of them fell of during baking, so I guess cloves will be better. Just remember to take them off before you eat ;)

December :: samling { 4 } together/ collection

The word today is samling { 4 } together/ collection.  I don't really collect anything (if I look away from yarn and book..). So I'll just show you a little collection of the packets I've been wrapping today :) The kids are at a sleepover at my mom, so Hubby and I are having a little time together. Right now he's in the kitchen making dinner :) No doubt he's the one who likes to make food here... which suits me find.

But I'have been rummaging a bit in the kitchen too today. Making a gingerbread dough for tomorrow. The house smells of ginger, clove and cinnamon :) I've used the same recipe as last year. And I may be a bit ambitious about the gingerbread house... But I think we'll manage it :)
