FO :: Sockhead Cowls

So as I'm trying to knit up some of my single skeins of yarn in my stash two of them has become Sockhead Cowls.

Patten: Sockhead Cowl (free pattern)
Yarn: Blue cowl - 95 g Nova Wool Pink cowl 86 g Merino 2/6 #burgundy
Needles: 2,5 mm / US 1.5
Size: Onesize. I knitted the first one as in the pattern, but I found it too long so I frogged it and knitted it like this. 160 sts, 40 rows k2, p2, 40 rows stockinette sts and 40 rows k2, p2.

FO :: Everyone's Cowl

Eirin's cowl is done and has been for some days. Just haven't had the time to post due to the stomach flu Endre got on friday and which I hoped would skip the rest of us, well it didn't :(

The cowl was meant to be a hat, but as it turned out too big I just kept on knitting and binded off when it was long enough for a cowl ;)

What's on your needles today?




I joined the Valentine's kal in the What dreams are made of group on Ravelry a while ago.
I decided I would knit Eirin the Everyone's hat, but after knitting one repeat of the pattern I could see it would be too big for her. So rather than ripping it I just kept on knitting and it will be the Everyone's cowl instead ;)
The yarn is something acrylic and it's from a store bought sweater i ripped ages ago.

FO :: Cabernet Infinity Cowl

My Cabernet Infinity Cowl is done.
Love how it turned out and it is warm and cosy and much needed now as we are having a cold period again,  -25 C today. I am starting to get a little cabin fever...

And I love it!! I want to have a set, so I'll cast on the Cabernet Hat when the cowl is done.

What's on your needles today?



Endre has the day off on Wednesday and the temperature suddenly went up to just -8 C this morning. So we packed our lunch and went snowshoeing :)
The light now is stunning and the sun shined on the peeks today.

Weekending

Weekending, my favorite part of the week. A time to relax, live, love, just to be.

It's been a cold weekend with - 25 C.
Too cold to be outside.
Only Hubby has been out fetching firewood.
So we've been indoors
feeding the wood stove,
burning candles,
watching more Dr. Who episodes,
knitting,
eating hot, strong chicken curry,
starting a new book,
drinking lots of warm cups of tea,
wearing two pairs of wool socks
and hoping the week will bring a little warmer weather.

FO :: Cowls

Two more cowls are off the needles. The last one was a bit boring those last few rows... But I still like the look of this cowl and need to knit myself one soon ;) Eirin has been asking who I am knitting the pink one for and has asked me if I can make one for her too. So I know she will be happy when she open her present :)

Pattern: Same as the grey cowl.
Yarn: 150 g pink and white Thea
Needles: 4 mm
Size: The white is 250 st and the pink 230 st

I am not on schedule with my christmas knitting - not at all... I have five gifts on the needles (two pair of socks are not in the photo..), two I haven't casted on yet and I have just started to stuff my Julekuler. Hopefully I will have them done today, and maybe a pair of socks.
Remember a few weeks ago when I said I didn't knit a lot of gifts? Well, I wasn't going to cast on more, but they are mostly for the kids and other close family members that I know will appreciate the gifts!

So what's on those needles?
Knitting: Julekuler. I love how fast these balls knits up and they dosen't need much yarn either. I hope I'll manage to knit up a few more :) 
The socks are for Erlend who finally has started to wear knitted socks :) It's a simple cuff down with k2, p2 rib, short row heel and st st over the fot.
The white and pink are cowls just like the grey one I made a while ago. They are both gifts, the pink is for Eirin. 

Reading: Right now I listen to the audiobook of City of the Beast. So far after listening to 3 of 8 cd's, it's ok. Hopefully it will start to get more exciting. I also read at night and those books can you find in the sidebar ;)

The tradition here in Norway is to put up and decorate the tree on the 23rd - Christmas Eve, but I feel we need to feel a bit of christmas mood before the 24th, so we put up the tree two weeks before so we can enjoy it longer :) I know some thinks it's not right, but I feel one doesn't have to grow stuck in old traditions, but make new ones that fits the way one live.

FO :: Simple Cowl

A lot of knitters are knitting this cowl here in Norway. I am not sure who or where the pattern comes from, but I found the pattern on Strikkesida (a knitting group on facebook).
It's a very simple pattern and knits up really fast. This is a gift, but I think I have to knit me one and maybe one to Eirin too :)

Pattern: CO 250 st join for knitting in the round
Row 1 and 2: k1, p1
Row 3 knit
Row 4 purl
Repeat until the size you want and bind off :)
Yarn: 150 g Thea from Trysil garn. Yes, I know it's 100% acrylic, but it's great for those who get's itchy around the neck of wool - which includes my daughter, so if I'll knit her one it will be with this yarn too. It's very soft and shiny and ok to knit with. It doesn't squeak on te needles as some acrylic does ;)
Needles: 4 mm

FO's :: Owlet mittens and Skull Cowl #2

I've had these mittens in my queue for a long time and when Eirin wanted a new pair of mittens she picked the yarn and I the pattern ;)

Yarn: Østlandsgarn 20 g pink and 52 g purple
Needles: 3,5 mm, but I see now that I should have used 4 mm as I know they will felt a bit when used in the snow...
Size: A mix of toddler and adult

Endre's Skull Cowl has been done since last week, but I haven't had time to take a photo of it before today.

Yarn: 50 g Mayflower Hit Parade #4217and 5 g Patons Australia Caressa DK 8ply #4550

Needles: 4 mm
Modifications: Instead of knitting a kerchief I made this into a cowl. I casted on 95 sts.

And we woke up to snow today - yay!!

Reading: I finished Edgar Sawtelle and I both liked it and couldn't quite get the hang of it... It might be a bit slow in the beginning, but then in the last part of the book you start to feel a connection to Edgar. And then the end - what was that all about?? I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but come on, you don't end a book like that!
So after me being a bit disappointed of Edgar Sawtelle, I really enjoy reading His Majesty's Dragon :) Just have to love that dragon! I hope to finish it tonight so I can start the 2nd book tomorrow.

Knitting: If you haven't seen the finished Stripy sweater go check it out. And my Zigzag socks from last week are also done.
On the needles now are the 2nd Skull cowl. I think I'll get it done today. Just have a few rows left. The purple socks I had started on last week and maybe was going to me Eirin's are now being mine ;) Love the colour. They are a plain toe-up and I think I'll knit a ribbed cuff. And the last project is a shawl for my mom. She had a gigantic ball of Big Ball Soft by Schoeller+Stahl. The pattern is Larch. If I had searched a bit on Ravelry, I might have knitted this shawl instead, but the yarn is so "hairy" that ripping is hard. But the shawl will be very soft.

It's a gray and rainy day here in the north. It's 2 C outside and it's been snowing in the mountains... So what else is there to do than brew a cup of tea, fire up the woodstove and grab my knitting :)

My Swirl socks are done and so is Erlend's Skull cowl so go check them out :)

Reading: It's the same books as last time, but I've desided to finish up Edgar Sawtelle - I love this book! I really hope there will be a happy ending to this...

Knitting: Do you miss an item on this photo..? Well, that's because the stripy sweater is off the needles - yay! Just have to see if it fits (crossing my fingers) and then I have to sew in all the ends. So hopefully there will be a fo post later this week.
So now I can knit socks :) The pink once was going to be a pair of Van Dyke socks last week, but they got too big for my feet and when I knitted with fewer sts they started to pool... So I casted on another pattern. It's the Zigzag socks from Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Sock Book. The purple once are going to be a pair for Eirin, but I haven't found a pattern yet. Just started the toe ;)
And ofcourse Endre has to have a Skull cowl too, so I've casted on one for him this morning.

Reading: I do have 7 books on my bedside table... but right now I'm enjoying these two the most :)
Edgar Sawtelle is a fascinating story and although I haven't read that far, I just now I will love this book! I started His Majesty's Dragon (which is the first book in a series), a few days ago and so far it's fantastic! Oh how I wish dragons were real...Both books is part of my Fall into Reading challenge.

Knitting: My Larch is done and is blocking as we speak. Hopefully the rainy weather will get better so I can take some photos outside of it soon. And as you can see, I have busy needles ;)

You must be so bored of this sweater now, aren't you..?
But I am seeing the end of it. Endre has tried it on after I put the sleeves and body on one needle, but I think it looks a little small...

I am almost done with my first Swirl sock.

After seeing The SkullKerchief, I just had to cast on right away. But instead of making a kerchief I am knitting a cowl that hopefully one of the boys will have ;)

And finally I had to cast on another pair of socks since it's Socktober :) It's going to be a pair of Van Dyke Socks.

Weeble Wobble Cowl

The 3rd pattern in Liz's Great Cowl KAL was Weeble Wobble Cowl.
Mine turned out very long. So long that I wish I had casted on less st and knitted more rounds to make it wider in hight. I can wrap it three times around my neck and it still very loose. I like my cowls a bit snug around my neck..

Gerda hat and a second Very good cowl indeed

I've been test knitting this hat pattern for Milja. The first one turned out a little to small for me, but fits Eirin perfect :) I knitted a second one on bigger needles for me and you can see it here on ravelry.

Yarn Along :: WIP Wednesday

Can't believe it's Wednesday again. Seems like the days is just flying away :) The two youngest have a day free from school, but we are spending the day inside despite a wonderful sunny day due to -20 C... I am so fed up with this low temperature :( So we are watching dvd's, playing with lego, doing some laundry, feeding the stove with wood and knit.

Reading: After listening to 6 out of 14 cd of The Return, I gave up. It was just to much politics to keep me interested... So I began listening to The Secret Life of Bees and I love it. A wonderful story!

I'm also enjoying Deeper the 2nd book in the Tunnels series. I only have a few chapter left and I'm glad I have the 3rd book waiting in the shelf ;) The last book is Whisper of Scandal by Nicola Cornick. One need to have one guilty pleasure book in the pile, right?

Knitting: Well, the socks haven't grown much since last week... I have knitted half the heel on the owl socks, but I'm worried about them being to small even for Eirin's feet. But I'll knit them without owls on the foot, so hopefully they will stretch a bit in the leg. The black is a hat I am test knitting :) And the pink/blue is another cowl, but this time for Eirin.

And I just have to share this Sh*t Knitters Say :)
