In The Garden

Spring came 2-3 weeks earlier than usual here in the north. The snow has melted fast with the help from the sun and the wind. So the last couple of weekends hubby and I have been fixing the greenhouse; we've painted it, made a floor and benches. And about a week ago I moved almost all my plants out of the living room and into the greenhouse. It's still cold during the nights and we might get a few frost nights, so we have to have an electric oven on. But so far both my tomato and cucumber plants seems to thrive :)

With all the snow gone so early, we could fix the soil in the vegetable garden by adding some cow compost and adding a few more raised beds. They are made from pallet collars.

I'm so lucky that hubby likes to drag home all sorts of things and that he likes to build.
So the other day he made a deck in front of the greenhouse and a bridge over the creek :)
All made from recycled materials! Endre is digging after earthworms to put in the vegetable garden.

We met a little frog in the forest :)

Still lots of snow in the mountains, but the bird cherry is full of sprouting leaves.
Can't wait for it to bloom :)

     

And my red currant bushes have survived the winter. Hopefully they will carry lots of berries.

I have no idea what this tiny flower is. Tiny, tiny as the size of a fingernail.
I'm not sure what the next two flowers down below are either. Need to wait until they bloom ;)

In My Garden

It's been a cold, rainy and windy start of this summer... For weeks it's been raining and the temperature has been just around 5 C. So when we suddenly had a glimpse of sun yesterday, there was no doubt in my mind as where to spend the day! Some flowers are already flowering and some are soon to follow. I have been planting out some plants and vegatables, hoping they will survive... I have also started to add more raised beds to my vegetable garden. So we'll see if I manage to plant something more this summer. You know, summer is short here in the north...

And I think I might have mention that Hubby was building me a green house..or maybe I have forgotten it?? Anyway - here it is. He finished it late last fall and it's built almost of recycled materials. We just had to buy some materials for the roof part. It needs a bit of paint and since it's the first year I am using it, I know there will be some things I will want to change inside it. I'll keep you posted ;)

Eirin and Endre have picked seeds and planted them in a shared raised bed :)

The tomatoes seems to like it here - so hopefully there will be tomatoes soon!

First Cucumber :)

Finally we could harvest our first cucmber :)
The kids been eying it for days now! And it tasted so good!
And as you can see - we can look forward to several more.
This is just 1 of  4 cucumber plants. It's amazing what can be grown in a windowsill!!

The greenhouse is finally warm enough for my plants.
So today I have been planting among other things some zucchini plants.
One of them already has a big flower bud :)

A week ago I planted seeds. 

Some flowers and some vegetables.

During the weekend they started to peek through the soil :)

Just waiting for summer to arrive...

Becasue all these little seedling want to get out and grow!!
And I love my litte paper potter. I think I'll have to see if I can find one that makes larger pots too, as these gets a little on the small side for some seedlings.

One have to be creative...
Dreaming of a greenhouse.
But until that happens, I just have to grow my cucumbers in my window ;)
Hopefully we will get some this year. I finally think I have found the right kind of seeds. So fingers crossed!

My Borlotti beans grew so fast I had to put them in big pots and find some bamboo sticks for them to climb in. I'm also growing a few suger peas and some flower peas.

It's so fascinating to see how they stretch, twist and hold on to the sticks with these treads.

I like to use what I have on hand, so my onion set was planted in these, which are from the kids lego advent calendars ;)

They seem to grow fast and with 24 in each, there will hopefully be 72 onions to plant out.

The carrots are growing too. I need to give them a head start indoors as the summer is so short here... But I'm still trying to find the right kind for us. So far we have tried a mix of several colours - which the kids liked. But I would like to find a good sort for storing and that taste good.
This year I have planted some orange and some purple. The purple have we tried before.

And the bumblebees needs some food too. So they will get some pretty Borage - Agurkurt to endulge in. They are edible for us too and looks pretty in a salad.

A mix of rutabaga, kohlrabi, brussels sprouts, iceberg lettuce and beetroot.
I haven't tried to grow any of them before, so we'll see how it goes.

And some swiss chard. Looking forward to try these.
