Ice skating

This year I have made an advent calendar with a combination of activities and a few presents.
Today we went ice skating :)

The ice on the little lake in our town has safe ice now and at the library we can borrow skates :)
The boys didn't want to try them on, but maybe next time ;)

We didn't stay for long as the wind was so freezing cold... But we managed to watch the fireworks as the Pepperkakebyen (Gingerbreadtown) opened :) We will visit it another day.

  1. When I was young, I can remember my hometown getting cold enough for long enough that we could skate on the frozen ponds in the parks. It's probably been at least 30 years since the ice has been safe there. I miss it!

I live far south enough now that our city has a new rink with synthetic ice to skate on. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking about it. Looks like you had fun!

  2. Wow, it's so cold up north! In our Southeastern parts of Europe we are still enjoying a fairly warm autumn and waiting for the synthetic ice rink to open :)

  3. What fun! My husband grew up in Minnesota (USA) where the lakes freeze safely every winter and he grew up skating all the time. How funny that your library loans out skates! I would have thought that everyone up where you live would own their own pair---is skating not a popular past time? Maybe it is just too cold most of the winter to be out?

    1. Well, some of you might think it be too cold to be out with -15 to 25C for weeks. But we just have to go outside or else we would get a bad cabin fever ;)
I guess skating have become more popular as we have been getting colder winters with less snow so the ice can freeze on the lakes before the snow comes. But skates can cost alot, so I think it's great to loan them as the kids outgrow them before next winter...

  5. Such lovely pictures! I have only ice skated once, in a rink. It looks like your family always has such a great time, no matter what the season!

  6. Det ser morsomt ut. Jeg har liten erfaring med skøyting selv, men det er jo virkelig tida for det nå med denne kulda og nesten ikke snø. Selv piggjoggeskoene mine måtte gi tapt mot stålisen i lysløypa...

  7. What a sensation to be able to skate on a frozen pond! Our only option is an ice rink here.

  8. I have always wanted to go ice skating outside! This year we are still having weather in the 60's even though it is December. The pictures you took are really nice!
