What's on your needles today?

Reading: I've picked up The Name of the Wind again. It's been put aside for a while. Not sure why, because I really like the story. So I will finish it before I start a new book.

Knitting: I am knitting most of the christmas gifts this year and I think there will be lots of mittens because they are both fun and fast to knit. I'm almost finished with my second pair :)

Speaking of knitting. I posted the two fox hats I made last week on facebook, and I was asked if I could knit two for a boy and a girl. So I did. The colours are a bit more darker blue and pink in real life. The light is getting weird as the sun is getting lower.

The winter is still here. No more snow has come, but it's cold.
It's as low as -10 C some mornings and as the sun is low and it takes some time before she comes around the mountain, it looks like everythig is covered in diamonds.
So pretty and so hard to capture in a photo...

Lats week when we woke up to snow, it got a bit hectic in the morning when the kids was heading out to wait for the bus, as I tried to find hats and mittens.... Well, it turned out that Endre had none left that still fit from last winter... So I just had to find some yarn and cast on a few pair.

FO :: What does the fox say?

I'm sure you all must have seen or heard the song What does the fox say? by now??
If not you can check it out here.
Anyhow, the song is very popular among the kids here and not long after it came out, hats started to pop up in a norwegian knit group on facebook. I hesitated for a while but the boys wanted one each so I just had to make them one, didn't I?

Pattern: I cast on 100 sts. The letters are knitted, but the fox is made with duplicate stitches. As for the lettes and the fox I found inspiration on the net. If you google or search Ravelry, there will pop up hats.
Yarn: The blue hat is Mor Aase ull/akryl and the grey hat is GGH Davos. The black and white is also GGH Davos and the orange is Raggi by Jarbo.

And the first snow came during the night.
No need to say that the kids were thrilled. Not me so much as this is not how the weather has been today... It's more like a snowstorm. I managed to go out and take the photos of the hats in a tiny moment of nice weather. It haven't stoped snowing since I came in...
So glad hubby put the winter tires on the cars this weekend.

Eirin found one of them when she help me tidy up in my knitting corner.
I'm not sure when I knitted these, but it might be before Endre was born...
Which makes them around 8 years old.

And I don't know why I didn't sew them together.
Well, it took me a couple of minutes to finish them and Eirin got herself a pair of wristwarmers :)

FO :: Neon hats

I don't hate acrylic yarn, but it's not my favorite yarn to knit with...
But the kids and hubby wanted hats in these colours so I just had to make some.
And the hats don't itch, so I know they will be worn!
In case you wondered, the orange one is hubby's - it's the same colour as his workwear ;)
My camera didn't managed to capture the intense bright colours, but just look at them and think neon! It's so bright it actually hurts to look at it in bright daylight...I still have some yellow I haven't used... So there might be more bright hats coming.

Cinnamon Bun Day

Did you know Sweden has an entire day devoted to cinnamon buns? Kanelbullens dag (Cinnamon Bun Day) started in 1999 when the Home Baking Council celebrated its 40th anniversary. The day was created to celebrate Sweden’s rich tradition of bullar, or buns, and now it has become a tradition held every year on October 4.

So I  baked a bunch of them this morning- knowing the kids will be thrilled when they comes home from school :)

So good and erfect to enjoy while knitting, but so hard to just eat one... The mittens are almost done - just the tip of the second one and the thumbs left.

So it's a good thing it's Soctober, because there is so many socks I want to cast on from this book.

And I know you'd like one or two of these don't you..?
So here is the recipe :)

Cinnamon Rolls - You get approx 30 big rolls from this dough

1200 g flour
200 g sugar
140 g butter
7 dl milk
50 g yeast
2 teaspoons cardamom
2 teaspoons salt

Filling

Butter, sugar and cinammon

Mix all dry ingredients and mix well.
Melt the butter and add the milk. Heat until it is lukewarm.
If you use fresh yeast, stir it into the butter and milk mixture before you add it to the dry ingredients.
Knead the dough well and set it to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size.
Roll the dough out into a large rectangle.
Spread the butter and sprinkle with desired amount of sugar and cinnamon.
Roll into a sausage. And cut approx. 30 pieces of 3-4 cm thickness.
Let them raise the baking sheets until they have doubled in size.
Sprinkle with pearl sugar just before baking.
Bake at 200 C for ca. 15 minutes.
Let them cool on a rack.

What's on your needles today?

Knitting: I have said it before and I still mean it - not everyone I know is knitworthy... But I have decided to knit christmas gifts this year. Mainly because I hate shopping, but also because I want to make We live in a cold place during winter, so everyone needs mittens and I guess mittens is something everyone will appreciate. So I have casted on the first pair :) I'll try to use up stash yarn, but I know I won't have enough, so a trip to the yarnstore will happen soon.
And as it's Socktober I have to knit socks too right?!
Well, I found a pair of "læsta" (thick wool socks) in the bottom of my basket... Guess I must have started them last winter... So it's about time I finish them.
I'm also knitting some hats in neon colours o_O
Not my typical colours, but mom had bought me some yarn and it seems to be popular to knit hats in these colours here in Norway...


Reading: I missed this post last week, so I couldn't tell you about the great book I was reading then.
The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag. It's the 2nd book in the Flavia de Luce series and I love this little girl who loves poisons and solves murders.
Did you know that they are filming Outlander this fall?? I can't wait to see it! I have only read the first book in the series, so a few nights ago I picked up the 2nd book - Dragonfly in Amber. Loving it so far.

Fabric Of Britain - Knittings Golden Age

My Scylla socks came off the needles today And as you can see I didn't have enough yarn to make the long cuffs I like... So they ended up as a pair of anklets - which I am ok with.

A close up on the pattern. It was an easy and fun pattern to knit and I will be knitting it again some time.

The indian summer we've been having the last couple of weeks are gone, and we are back to our normal fall weather with rain and below 10 C. So I guess it won't be long before my new scarf can be worn.

WIP :: Hitchhiker and socks

What's on your needles today?

I didn't feel like knitting on any of my projects yesterday, so I casted on a new one ;)
Hitchhiker in an unknown yarn I got from my mom. I know it's some kind of sockyarn, maybe OnLine..?

The socks I had started last week has a pattern now. I found Scylla and really liked the slipped stitch pattern. My worries is that I will not have enough yarn... I might knit both feet and then see how much yarn I have left.

And finally I picked another ufo from my basket. I started this pair of socks for Endre back in March... So I guess it's about time I finish them so he can wear them before they get too small.

I haven't had much time to read this week, but I managed to read a few chapters in The Yellow House last night. It's not so good yet that I can't put it down, but it seems like the story is getting there.

I'm also reading The 13 1/3  Life of Captain Bluebear. It's a funny and easy read. I have it beside my knitting and read a few pages now and then during the day.
